The Oath of Hypocrites!

Our system of justice does not give us a way to deal with physicians that are dishonest or incompetent, apart from civil litigation. Among other things, far too many doctors suffer from being dishonest. They are caught up in a terrible ethical dilemma by their own doings.

Something must be done about medical practitioners who will not admit their ignorance or mistakes, including radical changes to a system under which these medical professionals are permitted to practice consistent, persistent, recurrent wrongdoing to the detriment of unsuspecting patients under their care. What we have instead is organized crime in the wake of medical misadventure and a self regulating licensing body that is totally oblivious of doctors whose incompetence and carelessness can injure, maim, and kill.

The very fact that doctors are unwilling to blow-the-whistle on other bad doctors is prima-facie proof of lack of integrity, and dishonesty। Since the profession does not separate who they are from what they do, one can only conclude that the embodiment of values that physicians now live is no longer the Hippocratic Oath, but rather the Oath of Hypocrites!

  1. Dr Bhavesh Gordhan had operated my wife on 04 May 2011.
The procedures was laparotomy for mesenteric “biopsy”, procedure codes were; 1809, 1637, 1651 and ICD 10 codes I 88.0, K56.6.
Before the medical aid authorization number was obtained, my wife and I visited Dr Dordham medical suite for check- up and he gave brief explanation of how the biopsy procedure would be executed and the estimated time frame.
At the time we had the impression that we were putting my wife’s life in the (trustworthy?) hands of DR Gordham on the assumption that we were well informed and well motivated and that Dr Gordham would act in my wife best interests.
However we were not informed that this kind of elective abdominal aortic surgery without reasonable benefit there is the inevitable consequence with major pre-existing illnesses and serious diseases, it is to be expected that there will be a substantial adverse outcomes arising post operation.
It is clear that if a procedure has not been shown to be effective, we a properly informed patient may wish to avoid the inevitable concomitant risk by not having the procedure at all.
Having obtained a copy of Dr Gordhan letter sent to the medical aid for extra money /ref. no.:21694/, I have discovered that surgery performed on my wife was nothing else than damage repair from a poorly executed operation that was beyond the discussed boundaries of the biopsy procedure.
Having read and analysed Dr Gordham’s one page medical report, it is become clear that this life threatening “so called complicated surgery” was nothing else that damage repair of three “iatrogenic injuries” by Dr. Gordham which required the involvement of a specialist physician because the damage Dr. Gordham had made during his biopsy procedure was so extensive.
My first question is. What is my wife? A guinea pig or living cadaver from the Dr Mengele laboratories!
My second question is. Why the medical aid members should pay for Dr Gordham “so called “medical experience?
I am strongly incline and believe after many bad experience that majority of the medical “expert” using wonderful and noble ancient profession just for money making exercise. Some of these experts have no ethical or morale values at all.
I understand that the medical aide has just administrative function only, managing the funds cumulated by the members.
I kindly request full investigation why the medical aid should pay for such “botched experience” and the undue money should be claimed back.
    Faithfully yours,
